HAIR

Make three. Using colour (BABY YELLOW) and leaving a 15 cm starting tail which we will use to attach the hair to the head before we stuff the head, ch 9.

Round 1

Ss into the 2nd ch from the hook, ss into next 7 chs (8 ss), cut yarn leaving a 15 cm tail.

CHEEKS

Make two. Using colour (BABY PINK) make a magic circle.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 8 into mc (8 sc), cut yarn leaving a 15 cm tail, finish with a needle join, weave in starting tail.

Helpful hint: we will use the tail to attach the cheeks to the head in part 3.

HEAD

Make one. Using colour (BABY YELLOW), make a magic circle.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1 – top of head

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 6 into mc, place st marker in 6th sc and continue to work in the round (6 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker and place in the last stitch of each round; this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with round counting. Because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave my beginning tail in whilst working round 2.

Round 2

*Sc 2 into next st* rep *.* 5 more times (12 sc).

Helpful hint: with my patterns, I usually always start with an increase in the 1st stitch, so if your increase stitch falls in the 1st stitch of the increase stitch from the last round, your stitch count should be correct.

Round 3

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next st* rep *.* 5 more times (18 sc).

Round 4

Sc into next 18 sts (18 sc).

Round 5

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 2 sts* rep *.* 5 more  times (24 sc).

Round 6

Sc into next 24 sts (24 sc).

Round 7

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 3 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (30 sc).

Round 8

Sc into next 30 sts (30 sc).

Round 9

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 4 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (36 sc).

Round 10

Sc into next 36 sts (36 sc).

Round 11

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 5 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (42 sc).

Round 12

Sc into next 42 sts (42 sc).

Round 13

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 6 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (48 sc).

Round 14

Sc into next 48 sts (48 sc).

Round 15

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 7 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (54 sc).

Rounds 16 – 17

Sc into next 54 sts (54 sc).

Round 18

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 8 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (60 sc).

Sc into next 60 sts (60 sc).

Round 27

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 8 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (54 sc).

Round 28

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 7 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (48 sc).

Round 29

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 6 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (42 sc).

Helpful hint: before we continue with the head we are going to add the hair to the top of the head. Using a sewing needle attach each strand of hair by pulling the starting and end tails through into the 1st few rounds at the top of the head, from the right side into the inside, weave in or make a double knot to attach the hair strands.

Round 30

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 5 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (36 sc).

Helpful hint: you can stuff the head now, and then just add more in before you close off after the last round, the head should be firm, but not too hard.

Round 31

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 4 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (30 sc).

Round 32

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 3 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (24 sc).

Round 33

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts* rep *.* 5 more times (18 sc).

Round 34

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next st* rep *.* 5 more times (12 sc).

Helpful hint: add more stuffing now if you think it is necessary but be careful not to overstuff.

Round 35

*Inv sc2tog*, rep *.* 5 more times (6 sc) cut yarn leaving a 20 cm tail.  Using a sewing needle sew into each FLO only of each sc and pull tight, cut yarn and weave in ends.

Helpful hint: this is the bottom of the head which is where we will attach the wings in Part 3.

BEAK

Make one. Using colour (ORANGE), ch 11.

Round 1

Sc 2 into 2nd ch from hook, sc into next 8 chs, sc 2 into last ch, (going back down the other side of the unworked chs) sc into next 8 chs, place a sm into the last st and continue to work in the round (20 sc).

Rounds 2 – 5

Sc into next 20 sts (20 sc).

Round 6

*Sc 3 into next st, sc into next 9 sts* rep *.* 1 more time (24 sc), cut yarn leaving a 20 cm tail, finish with a needle join, weave in starting tail.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 5 into mc, place st marker into 5th sc and continue to work in the round (5 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker (or use a running marker) and place it in the last stitch of each round; this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with round counting.  Because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave in my beginning tail whilst working round 2.

Round 2

Sc 2 into next 5 sts (10 sc).

BOW

Make one. Using colour (BABY PINK), make a magic circle.

Round 1

*Ch 5, dtr 4, ch 5, ss* into mc rep *.* 1 more time, cut yarn leaving a 30 cm tail.

Helpful hint: we will attach the bow to the head in Part 3.

HAT

Make one. Using colour (NATURAL/WHITE), make a magic circle.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1 – top of hat

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 8 into mc, place st marker in 8th sc and continue to work in the round (8 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker and place in the last stitch of each round; this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with round counting. Because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave my beginning tail in whilst working round 2.

Round 2

*Sc 2 into next st* rep *.* 7 more times (16 sc).

Helpful hint: with my patterns, I usually always start with an increase in the 1st stitch, so if your increase stitch falls in the 1st stitch of the increase stitch from the last round, your stitch count should be correct.

Round 3

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next st* rep *.* 7 more times (24 sc).

Round 4

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 2 sts* rep *.* 7 more times (32 sc).

Round 5

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 3 sts* rep *.* 7 more times (40 sc), ss into next st, cut yarn, finish with a nj and weave in ends.

Helpful hint: for the next section of the hat, turn your work so that the wrong side is facing up.

Round 6 – FLO – with wrong side facing

Using colour (NATURAL/WHITE), leave a 25 cm starting tail which we will use to stich the hat onto the head in Part 3, join in FLO of any sc from round 5, ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into FLO of same st, sc into FLO of next 39 sts, ss into 1st st (40 FLO sc).

Helpful hint: the FLO would be front loop if your work is viewed from the right side, but as we are working with the wrong side facing us, we are working into the loops closest to the edge.

Rounds 7 – 9

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 39 sts, ss into 1st st (40 sc), at the end of round 9 cut yarn, finish with a nj and weave in the ends.

Helpful hint: we will use the starting tail from round 6 to attach the hat to the head in Part 3.
