ZOEY ZEBRA – PART 3

HOOVES AND FORELEGS

Make two. Using colour (MIDNIGHT), make a magic circle.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 8 into mc, place st marker into 8th sc and continue to work in the round (8 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker (or use a running marker) and place in the last stitch of each round; this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with round counting. Because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave my beginning tail in whilst working round 2.

Round 2

*Sc 2 into next st*, rep *.* 7 more times (16 sc).

Round 3

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next st*, rep *.*  7 more times (24 sc).

Round 4

Sc into BLO next 32 sts (32 BLO sc).

Rounds 6 – 7

Sc into next 32 sts (32 sc).

Round 8 – change colour at end of round

Sc into next 32 sts, colour change to (BLACK) by finishing off the last stitch with the new colour (32 sc). Cut (MIDNIGHT) leaving a 15 cm tail.

Helpful hint: work colour (MIDNIGHT) tail whilst doing the next round.

Round 9

Using colour (BLACK), sc into next 32 sts (32 sc).

Helpful hint: work in the (BLACK) starting tail whilst doing the next round.

Rounds 10 – 11

Sc into next 32 sts (32 sc).

Round 12 – change colour at end of round

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 7 more times, change to colour (WHITE) by finishing off the last st with the new colour, (24 sc), as we will be using both the (WHITE) and the (BLACK).

Helpful hint: work in the (WHITE) starting tail whilst doing the next round.

Round 13

Using colour (WHITE), sc into next 24 sts (24 sc).

Round 14 – change colour at end of round

Sc into next 24 sts, change colour to (BLACK) by finishing off the last st with the new colour (24 sc).

Round 20 – change colour at end of round

Sc into next 18 sts, change colour to (WHITE) by finishing off the last st with the new colour (18 sc).

Round 21 – change colour at end of round

Using (WHITE), ss into next st, ch 1 (does not count as a st), dc into same sp, dc into next 17 sts, change colour to (BLACK) by finishing off the last st with the new colour, ss into 1st st, (18 dc).

Round 22 – change colour at end of round

Using (BLACK), ch 1 (does not count as a st), dc into same sp, dc into next 17 sts, change colour to (WHITE) by finishing off the last st with the new colour, ss into 1st st, (18 dc).

Helpful hint: we are going to make the “wrist” now before continuing with the arm. Place a stitch marker into the loop on your hook so that your work does not unravel whilst making the next section.

Helpful hint: you can firmly stuff the hooves. To make a “wrist” and secure the stuffing into the hoof, cut a 30 cm piece of (BLACK) to stitch the opening closed between rounds 19 and 20.  Stitch the wrist area twice to make sure it is closed securely. The foreleg is not stuffed so you can cut the yarn and weave in the end, then continue finishing the rounds up to round 30.

Round 23 – change colour at end of round

Using (WHITE), ch 1 (does not count as a st), dc into same sp, dc into next 17 sts, change colour to (BLACK) by finishing off the last st with the new colour, ss into 1st st, (18 dc).

Helpful hint: we are finished with colour (BLACK) so you can weave in the tail end whilst making the next round.

Round 29
