Melly Teddy Ragdoll Calliope Cow Part 3

Melly Teddy Ragdoll Calliope Cow Part 3

HOOVES AND FORELEGS – Calliope Cow

Make two. Using colour (ANTIQUE) yarn, make a magic circle.

Helpful hint: we are working in rounds.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 8 into mc, place st marker into 8th sc and continue to work in the round (8 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker (or use a running marker) and place in the last stitch of each round; this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with round counting. Because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave my beginning tail in whilst working round 2.

Round 2

*Sc 2 into next st*, rep *.* 7 more times (16 sc).

Round 3

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next st*, rep *.*  7 more times (24 sc).

Round 4

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 7 more times (32 sc).

Round 5

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next 3 sts*, rep *.* 7 more times (40 sc).

Rounds 6 – 8

Sc into next 40 sts (40 sc).

Round 9 – change colour at end of round

Sc into next 40 sts, (colour change to SAND) by finishing off the last stitch with the new colour (40 sc).  Cut (ANTIQUE) yarn leaving a 15 cm tail.

Helpful hint: work colour (ANTIQUE) yarn tail whilst doing the next round.

Round 10

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 9 more times (30 sc).

Helpful hint: work in the (SAND) starting yarn tail whilst doing the next round.

Rounds 11 – 12

Sc into next 30 sts (30 sc).

Round 13

*Inv sc2tog, sc into next st*, rep *.* 9 more times (20 sc).

Round 14

Sc into next 20 sts (20 sc).

Round 15 – change colour at end of round

Inv sc2tog, sc 8*, rep *.* 1 more time, (colour change to WHITE) by finishing off the last stitch with the new colour (18 sc).  Cut (SAND) yarn leaving a 15 cm tail.

Helpful hint: work colour (SAND) yarn tail whilst doing the next round.

Round 16

Sc into next 18 sts (18 sc), cut yarn leaving a 35 cm tail – we will use this tail to make the “wrist” after the next few rounds.

Helpful hint: work in the (WHITE) starting yarn tail whilst doing the next round.

Rounds 17 – 25

Join colour (WHITE) yarn into the last sc from round 16, ch 1 (does not count as a st), dc into same sp, dc into next 17 sts, ss into 1st st (18 dc).

Helpful hint: firmly stuff the hooves after a few rounds.  To make a “wrist” and secure the stuffing into the hoof, use the tail from round 16 to stitch the opening closed between rounds 16 and 17.  Stitch the wrist area twice to make sure it is closed securely.  The foreleg is not stuffed so you can cut the yarn and weave in the end, then continue finishing the rounds up to round 26.

Round 26

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into same sp, sc into next 17 sts, ss into 1st st (18 sc), ss the opening closed in BLO, cut yarn leaving a 25 cm tail.

Helpful hint: we will attach the forelegs to the body in Part 6.

FINISHING THE HOOVES

Cut a piece of (ANTIQUE) yarn 30 cm long and make the hooves by inserting the needle into the center of the magic circle, count 7 rows upwards (directly below the top fold of the foreleg) and insert your needle into a stitch directly above the magic circle, pull tightly so that you make an indent, repeat this 3 times on each hoof, weave in ends.
