MellyGurumi Easter Bunny Part 3

MellyGurumi Easter Bunny Part 3

A FREE MINI CROCHET ALONG (CAL)

The MellyGurumi Easter Bunny (Part 3) is my very first full amigurumi creation – and hopefully the first of many more.  Her pattern is easy to follow, with step by step instructions, loads of photos and helpful hints – she also comes with her own unique birth certificate.

She is fun to create, and you can use your imagination when decorating her dress and the eggs in her basket.

The MellyGurumi Easter Bunny (Part 3) is perfect for cuddling and is a great yarn buster.

PATTERN – MellyGurumi Easter Bunny Part 3

BRINGING YOUR MELLYGURUMI TO LIFE

You have made all the different body parts and motifs, now to bring your MellyGurumi to life.

You do not need to follow these instructions exactly, this is just the way I like to put mine together, so is a suggestion only – the idea is to have FUN with the design, use your imagination and make yours unique.

ATTACHING THE EARS TO THE HEAD

I use a tailor’s pen to mark where I want to place my ears.  You can use pins if you prefer.  The tailors pen disappears when wiped with a damp cloth.

I attached the ears on either side of the head approximately 4 stitches apart and over rows 25 – 28 (counting from the tip of the nose).

ATTACHING THE HEAD TO THE BODY

I marked where I wanted to attach the head to the body, and then slip stitched the head to the body from row 17 (underneath the chin area) to row 25 (back of the head).  I went around the neck area twice to make sure the head was nice and secure.  If it flops back, then catch a stitch below the “chin” area to stabilize it.

ATTACHING THE TAIL

The tail is not stuffed.  Place the tail on the back of the body and slip stitch it to the body, weave in ends.  I placed the top of mine on the last row of the knickers and attached it over the 5 rows below the top of the knickers.

ATTACHING THE HEART

Slip stitch the heart onto the chest where the heart is supposed to be.  I placed mine approximately 6 rows from the neck.

ATTACHING THE SHOES

If you do not want the shoes to be removable you can slip stitch them to the feet, weave in ends.  You could decorate the shoes with flowers or bows if you want too.

FINISHING THE FACE DETAILS/SCULPTING

I use pale pink eyeshadow to lightly colour the inside of the ears and gave her cheeks some colour.

If you have not used a safety nose you can make one now using satin stitch – there are loads of ways of adding noses to amigurumi, I added a pink nose using satin stitch.

I then gently sculptured the face by threading yarn from one side of the head to the other, just under the eyes, to pull the eyes together.  The photos below will assist you with this.

I added a little bit of white yarn to the underside of the safety eyes and added little eyelashes to the sides of the eyes.

I added a bow to the one ear.  You could add flowers, or more bows.

MAKING THE KNEES/ELBOWS

I used the same colour yarn and used a running stitch to make the bend for the knees, legs, and elbows.  The photos should assist you with this.

I made the bend in the knees between row 33 and 34. And for the legs between rows 45 (top of legs) and row 1 (bottom of body).

I made the elbow bend between rows 24 and 25.

DECORATING THE DRESS

Click here for a link to basic embroidery stitches.

I carefully joined the dress from the bottom over approximately 20 rows (you need to leave enough space to put the dress over the head.  I attached a little button to the back of the neck edge of the dress.

I then used colour (E) to surface crochet between rows 16 and 17, and 19 and 20 – this is optional.  Here is a link to show you how to surface crochet. It can be a bit tricky at first, but once you are used to this technique you will love it.

I added the pocket to the side of the dress using slip stitch, leaving the top open.  I then used lazy daisy embroidery stitch to make the leaves and the stem and attached the flower.

DECORATING THE EGGS

I made a few flowers and attached them to the egg.  I made the stems by using thread and made little French knots over some of the stems.  You can do anything you like.

PUTTING ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET 😊

Slip stitch the handle to the opposite side of the basket.  I cut a circle of cardboard to fit into the bottom of the basket to make it firmer, I then added a strip to the inside of the basket, placed cotton wool into it, and added some eggs – you can add chocolate eggs – that would look great.

You can add a bow to the side of the basket – or as many as you like.  I wrap the tail a few times around the middle of the bow and then attach it, weave in ends.
