PATTERN – MR FOX RAGDOLL PART 6

PART 6

BRINGING YOUR MELLY TEDDY RAGDOLL TO LIFE

You have made all the different body parts and motifs, now to bring your Melly Teddy to life.

You do not need to follow these instructions exactly, this is just the way I like to put mine together, so is a suggestion only – the idea is to have FUN with the design, use your imagination and make yours unique.

ATTACHING THE ARMS/HANDS & TUMMY

Place the body flat, making sure that the increase stitches are on either side, then slip stitch the arm to the body between rows 2 and 5 – I slip stitch the front and the back of the arm to make it more stable.  The paws are facing upwards and the seam should be at the bottom of the arm.

Slip stitch the tummy onto the body of the ragdoll.  Place the tummy in the middle of the body, with the point about 3 rows from below the neckline, ending in the round bit facing the bottom of the body.

ATTACHING THE LEGS AND TAIL

Using the same colour yarn that you used for the body part of the doll, slip stitch the legs to the “pants” section of the body.

Slip stitch the tail onto the back of the body using the same colour yarn as the tail.  I attached it in the middle of the body four rows from the bottom of the body/area between the legs.  Reinforce the stitching because the tail is a bit heavier than I normally make as it is a long and slightly stuffed tail.

ATTACHING THE HEART AND BOWTIE

Slip stitch the heart onto the back of the body to one side just above the tail.

Take a long piece of black yarn, wrap it several times, firmly around the middle of the bowtie, then slip stitch it to the top of the point of the tummy just under the neck of the body.

ATTACHING THE EARS, NOSE AND MUZZLE

Attach the triangle onto the top of the muzzle, using neat slip stitches.  Then attach the plastic nose/embroider a nose to the tip of the muzzle covering part of the triangle and part of the white muzzle, then firmly stuff the muzzle and use slip stitches to attach it to the head, making sure that the orange triangle lines up with the end of the orange rows of the head.

Attach the ears with a slight curve onto the top of the head approximately 8 – 9 rows apart.  Make sure that they are evenly attached, I use a magic marker (sewing pen) to mark where I slip stitch the ears onto the head, and slip stitch around both sides of the ear so that they are nice and firm.

Slip stitch the inner ear (white triangle) to the front of the ear lining the bottom of the triangle up with the bottom of the ear.

ADDING THE MOUTH, WHISKERS AND EYEBROWS.

This is just a suggestion, you can do whatever you like with your ragdoll – embroider the eyes, use your imagination, it is your unique creation.

I use black yarn to make the mouth by adding a strip vertically from under the plastic/embroidered nose over approximately 4-5 rows.

Place the eyebrows approximately 6 – 7 rows directly above each eye and I make the eyebrow long enough to cover 2 stitches.

You can add whiskers on either side of the muzzle.  You can thread the yarn back and forth using knots on the inside of the muzzle.  I opted not to add whiskers to my ragdoll.

ATTACHING THE HEAD

I like to add the head last, because this is the most important join, and this is the last thing you do before your Melly Teddy Ragdoll comes to life, this is my favourite part.  I use a disappearing ink marker to mark where I want my head to be placed, you can use stitch markers or pins, to help you.  Slip stitch the neck opening, like you did the arms and the feet, then lie your body flat, and make sure that the middle of the head is exactly joined to the middle of the body, otherwise it will look funny, and lie skew.  So, you are working “over” the centre of the end of the head, then slip stitch the body to the head, on both sides, cut yarn and weave in.

Now you have made your beautiful Melly Teddy Ragdoll for that someone special, you can print out his/her very own unique Birth Certificate.
