Helpful hint: *inc* means to make two single crochet stitches into same space – thereby increasing the stitch count in the round.

Round 2

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), *inc* into same st, sc into next 4 sts, *inc* into next 3 sts, sc into next 4 sts, *inc* into next 2 sts, ss into 1st sc (20).

Round 5

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 33 sts, sc2tog, sc into next st, ss into 1st sc, cut yarn, weave in ends (36).

Round 6

Helpful hint: Use the same colour yarn (G) yarn in the centre of the back of the boot – I used the sc2tog – in other words the side we ended round 5 with, and we will work this round in the BLO (back loop only).

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into BLO of next 35 sts, ss into 1st sc (36).

Round 7

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 35 sts, ss into 1st sc (36).

Round 8

Repeat round 7 (36).

Repeat round 13 (22).

Round 18

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc), cut yarn leaving a long tail to use to keep the stuffing in to the boot after we make the stockings.

Helpful hint: we will now make the stockings.

STOCKINGS

Round 19

Using colour (B) yarn, join with a ss into the 1st st from previous round, ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 20

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Helpful hint: when I work in rounds like this I do not carry the yarn with me, I leave it and work on the next colour for two rows, then make a twist at the back when I need to use the alterative colour.

Round 21

Using colour (F) yarn, join with a ss into the 1st st from previous round, ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 26

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 27

Round 28

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 29

Round 30

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 31

Using colour (B) yarn, join with a ss into the 1st st from previous round, ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc).

Round 32

Ch 1, (does not count as a st), sc into same st, sc into next 21 sts, ss into 1st sc (22 sc), cut both colour yarns, and weave in ends.

Helpful hint: gently stuff the boot part of the leg, use the long tail left after working the last row of colour (G) yarn to secure the stuffing in – make sure that the “join” is nicely centred at the back of the boot.

Helpful hint: we will attach the boots to the petticoat and attach to the bottom of the dress in Part 6.

PETTICOAT

Make two using colour (E) yarn, chain 32, and join to form a ring.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as st), dc into same ch, dc into next 31 sts, ss into 1st dc (32 dc).

Round 2

Ch 1 (does not count as st), dc into same st, dc into next 31 sts, ss into 1st dc (32 dc).

Rounds 3 – 5

Repeat round 2 (32 dc).

Round 6

Ch 1 (does not count as st), *sc into same st, sk next st, 5 dc shell into next st, sk st*, rep *.* 7 more times (9 sc, 8 x 5 dc shell), ss into 1st st, cut yarn leaving a long tail to use to attach the stockings and boot in Part 6.

SHOELACES

Using colour (H) embroider shoelaces in the middle of the front of the boot.  You can make them straight lines, or crosses.  I left a long end to both sides to use to make a bow.

TAIL (Eclipse the black Cat)

Make one, lightly stuffed and worked in the round, using colour (B) yarn make a mc.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc 4 into mc (4 sc).

Round 2

*Sc 2 into next st*, rep *.* 3 more times (8 sc).

Round 3

*Sc 2 into next st, sc into next st*, rep *.* 3 more times (12 sc).

Round 4

Sc into next 12 st (12 sc).

Helpful hint: if you want to make the tail bend you can add a pipe cleaner into the stuffing as you fill the tail.  I fill the tail as I go along as it is easier that doing it when the tail gets too long.

Rounds 5 – 45

Repeat round 4 (12 sc), at the end of round 45, fill the tail with stuffing (think squishy), ss the opening closed, cut yarn leaving enough yarn to attach the tail to the body in Part 6.  You can add a pipe cleaner or two if you would like to make the tail curl a bit (not suitable for toys made for babies).
