Variant Crochet Tunic Top Section 6 – Free Crochet Pattern

Supplies/Materials:

PLEASE NOTE: Amount of yarn can still change since this is a work in progress – BUT the amounts shown is what we are starting with. Due to stitch design – yarn may increase. Thank you.

  • Yarn – What I am using (Large Size)- Nurturing Fibres Eco Lush (60% Cotton, 40% Manufactured Fibers – Rayon from Bamboo) – approx 1200 – 1500 yards (1097 – 1372 m) 12 x 50 g balls (color changes listed in Pattern); Weight – Sock/Fingering (14 wpi) – approx amounts of colours used listed in Pattern
  • Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – Clover
  • Yarn – Melanie (Large Size) – Nurturing Fibres Eco Cotton 100% Cotton – approx 2700- 2900 yards (2600 – 2750 m) 22 x 50 g balls (color changes listed in Pattern); Weight – DK (11 wpi) – approx amounts of colours used listed in Pattern
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)

Gauge:
However gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your square will be a different size!

Finished Size:
Large – approx 70 cm in width (28 inches) – 80 cm in length (32 inches)
Medium – approx 60 cm in width (24 inches) – 70 cm in length (28 inches)
Small – approx 50 cm in width (20 inches) – 60 cm in length (24 inches)

A – Baltic 50 g x 3
B – Aventurine 50 g x 3
C – Aqua 50 g x 3
D – Mist 50 g x 3

Eco Cotton Colors:

A – Bordeaux 50 g x 5
B – Orchid 50 g x 6
C – Willow 50 g x 6
D – Pear 50 g x 5

6th Strip:

With D – join into FIRST SC on the RS.

RS – ROW 52: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC until end, TURN.(76/88/100 SC)

SPECIAL STITCH – FORKED CLUSTER STITCH (FC).

Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, [yarn over, pull up a loop] twice into same space, yarn over, pull through 1st 4 loops on hook, skip next stitch, yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, [yarn over, pull up a loop] twice into same space, yarn over, pull through 1st 4 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

ROW 53: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next CH 1; [FC over next 3 SC, CH 2] x 22/26/31; make FC over next 3 sts; CH 1;work 2 DC into last 2 SC; TURN.
(17/20/32Forked Clusters, 31 x CH 2, 2 x CH 1, 4 DC).

The FC is worked slightly differently over the following 4 rows.  Place the 1st leg of the FC into CH space and 2nd leg of FC into next CH space for 1st FC, there after place the 1st leg in the same CH space as the previous CH space.

ROW 54: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); CH 1; work 1 DC into next DC; work [FC, CH 2] x 22/26/31; work FC; CH 1;  work 1 DC into last 2 DC; TURN.
(23/27/32 x FC, 31 x CH 2, 2 x CH 1, 4 DC)

ROW 55: repeat ROW 54

ROW 56: repeat ROW 54

ROW 57: repeat ROW 54

RS – ROW 58: CH 1; work 1 SC into next 2DC; work 1 SC into next 1 CH space; [work 3 SC into next CH 2 space] x 22/26/31; work 2 SC into next 1 CH space, work 1 SC into last 2 DC.
(76/88/100 SC)

Strips should measure approx  46 cm (18 inches) in width with Fingering yarn and  49 cm (19 ½ inches) with DK Cotton yarn.
