MELLY TEDDY RAGDOLL PILOT BEAR PART 6

BRINGING YOUR MELLY TEDDY RAGDOLL TO LIFE

You have made all the different body parts and decoration, now to bring your Melly Teddy to life.

You do not need to follow these instructions exactly, it is just the way I like to put mine together, so is a suggestion only – the idea is to have FUN with the design, use your imagination and make yours unique.

Attaching the Tail, Patches, Front Paws, Paw Pads and Toes

Helpful hint: before you attach the arms etc to the body, lay the body flat making sure that the seam is lying to one side of the body and not at the back – the reason I designed the body like this is so that the seam is not as noticeable as when it is at the back.

Place the body flat, making sure that the increase stitches made are on either side of the body (this makes them less visible), the seam of the sleeve should be at the bottom of the arm, I slip stitch the opening at the top of the sleeve so that it is easier to slip stitch to the body, then attach sleeves to the body between rows 2 and 5 – I slip stitch the front and the back of the arm to make it more stable.

Add the paw pads (heart) and 3 toes onto the front paw.

Attach the paws to the sleeves using the first row of double crochet to stitch the paw into the sleeve, leaving the “rib” loose.

Slip stitch the tail onto the back of the body 4 rows from the bottom of the middle of the pants.

Slip stitch the patches onto the pants (I placed one in front and one at the back) then use a contrast yarn to make it look like the patch has been stitched on.

Attaching the Back Paws, Paw Pads and Toes

Slip stitch the back paws to the middle of the bottom of the pants, and slip stitch the opening of the pants at the same time, slip stitch the opening between the legs, cut yarn, weave in ends.

Add the paw pads (heart) and 3 toes onto the front paw.

Adding the Muzzle and Nose

Using the colour (D) yarn add the eyebrows above the eyes, approximately 3 stitches long. I start two rows above the eye.  The eyebrows are about 8 stitches apart from each other.

Using black yarn or embroidery thread make finish off the nose – or if you do not use a safety nose you can embroider the nose entirely.

Attaching the Wings, Pilot Hat and Ears

Slip stitch the front flap, add the buttons (I used a contrast yarn and made it look like a button) and the goggles, I left the goggles strap loose but you can slip stitch it if you prefer.

Slip stitch the hat onto the head.

Attach the ears to the hat just behind the flap (opposite the buttons) about 16 stitches apart.

Slip stitch the wings onto the jersey.

Attaching the Head and Scarf

I like to add the head last, because this is the most important join, and this is the last thing you do before your Melly Teddy Ragdoll comes to life, this is my favourite part.  I use a disappearing ink marker to mark where I want my head to be placed, you can use stitch markers or pins, to help you.  Slip stitch the neck opening, like you did the arms and the feet, then lie your body flat, and make sure that the middle of the head is exactly joined to the middle of the body, otherwise it will look funny, and lie skew.  So, you are working “over” the centre of the end of the head, then slip stitch the body to the head, on both sides, cut yarn and weave in.

You can tie the scarf around the neck and if you prefer you can slip stitch it so that it does not come off.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Now you have made your beautiful Melly Teddy Ragdoll for that someone special, you can print out his/her very own Birth Certificate.
