PATTERN

BONNIE & CLYDE HORSE PART 6

BRINGING YOUR MELLY TEDDY RAGDOLL TO LIFE

You have made all the different body parts and decoration, now to bring your Melly Teddy to life.

You do not need to follow these instructions exactly, it is just the way I like to put mine together, so is a suggestion only – the idea is to have FUN with the design, use your imagination and make yours unique.

Helpful hint: before you attach the arms etc to the body, lay the body flat making sure that the seam is lying to one side of the body and not at the back – the reason I designed the body like this is so that the seam is not as noticeable as when it is at the back.

Attaching the Forelegs/Hind-legs & Dungarees

Place the body flat, making sure that the increase stitches made are on either side of the body (this makes them less visible), the seam of the sleeve should be at the bottom of the arm, I slip stitch the opening at the top of the sleeve so that it is easier to slip stitch to the body, then attach sleeves to the body between rows 2 and 5 – I slip stitch the front and the back of the arm to make it more stable.

Slip stitch the horseshoes onto the hooves.

Slip stitch the hind-legs to the middle of the bottom of the pants, and slip stitch the opening of the pants at the same time, slip stitch the opening between the legs, cut yarn, weave in ends.  Slip stitch the horseshoes onto the hooves.

Stitch the heart to the back part of the dungarees.

Using the long tails left at the end of the straps, slip stitch the straps to the body, crossing the straps at the back (BOY), and attaching to the back of the pants (where the colour change was made – row 8).  When you get to the neck edge, slip stitch the straps on either side of the neck.

Attach the buttons to the front of the dungarees for the GIRL leaving a short piece of the strap loose in the front.

Attach the buttons to the back of the dungarees for the BOY.

Attaching the Motifs

Attach the eyes to the sheep’s body (in the middle), attach the ears to either side of the black head.  Attach the sheep to the front of the GIRL’s dungarees using black yarn, attach along the black circle, leaving the white fluffy bit of the sheep loose, attach the legs underneath the white part of the body of the sheep.

Attach the red tractor to the BOY’s dungarees, add the two tires, large one at the back, smaller one in the front.

Adding the Ears, Mane, Flowers, Star/Blaze

Attach the star or blaze onto the forehead

Embellish the eyes with eye lashes or add your own eyes.  I used safety eyes and some black yarn.

Attach the ears on either side of the blaze or star approximately 10 stitches apart and 6 rows up from the eyes.  Slip stitch around both sides of the ear and make sure that they are standing up straight and ever so slightly turned out.

Slip stitch the mane to the top of the head between the ears, starting just above the blaze or the star, and slip stitch the mane using the row of single crochet stitches.  Make sure that the mane is attached straight down towards the neck of the horse.

Attach the two flowers to the top of the girl’s head to one side next to her ear – make as many flowers as you want and add them where you would like to put them.

Attaching the Head

I like to add the head last, because this is the most important join, and this is the last thing you do before your Melly Teddy Ragdoll comes to life, this is my favorite part.  I use a disappearing ink marker to mark where I want my head to be placed, you can use stitch markers or pins, to help you.  Slip stitch the neck opening, like you did the arms and the feet, then lie your body flat, count 18 rows from the 1st row of the muzzle and attach the head over rows 19 and 20 making sure that you place the head straight over the rows otherwise it will look funny, and lie skew.  Slip stitch the body to the head, on both sides, cut yarn and weave in.
