The latest edition to the Melly Teddy Ragdoll Family is the Snowman Family Part 2, starring little Chilly – who is just too adorable with his ear warmers and scarf.  Although I live in Durbanville (which is a small town in Cape Town, South Africa), I do love snow and am definitely more a winter girl – nothing nicer than snuggling up in front of a fire with my family and playing card games and chatting, laughing and bonding.  Sadly, I have to pretend it is snowing outside, although it does rain heavily in winter and gets a bit chilly, and I might need to put on a cardigan LOL.  This pattern is for any snowman/winter/roasted marshmallow loving person.

The pattern includes the instructions to make dad, mom and little Chilly.

The pattern will be released in 6 parts over 2 weeks and you can get each part separately FOR FREE with the Crochet Along

PATTERN – SNOWMAN FAMILY PART 2

HANDS – DAD & MOM

Make two – lightly stuffed and worked in the round.

Using colour (A) yarn make a mc.

Round 1

ch 1, sc 8 into mc, place st marker into 8th sc and continue to work in the round (8 sc).

Round 2

sc 2 into each st (16 sc).

Helpful hint: move the stitch marker and place in the last stitch of each row and this will help keep your stitch count correct and help with row counting, I have made this pattern more times than I can remember, and I still use a stitch marker otherwise I get my final stitch count incorrect, and because we are working quite tightly in the round, I weave my beginning tail in whist working round 3.

Round 3

*sc 2 into next st, sc into next st*, rep *.* 7 more times (24 sc).

Round 4

*sc 2 into next st, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 7 more times (32 sc).

Round 5

sc into next 32 sts (32 sc).

Round 6-10

repeat round 5 (32 sc).

Round 11

*inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 7 more times (24 sc).

Round 12

sc into next 24 sts (24 sc).

Round 13

*inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 5 more times (18 sc).

Round 14

sc into next 18 sts (18 sc).

Round 15-20

repeat round 14 (18 sc).

Helpful hint: at the end of round 20, ss into next st, cut yarn, leaving 20 cm tail (to stitch stuffing into hand) and leave the tail on the outside of the hand (this makes stitching the stuffing into the hand easier).  We are going to do this after a few rounds of the arm section.

ARMS – DAD & MOM

Not stuffed – make 2 each.

Using colour (A), join yarn in the last single crochet from round 20.

Round 21

ch 1 and dc into same st, dc into the next 17 sts, ss into 1st dc (18 dc).

Helpful hint: the chain 1 stitch does not count as a stitch BUT it is used, and the reason for this is so that we get a nice straight join – have no idea how, but it works LOL.

Round 22

ch 1, dc into same st, dc into next 17 sts, ss into 1st dc (18 dc).

Round 23-28

repeat round 22.

Helpful hint: lightly stuff the hands, think squishy, then using the long tail left from the “hand” section stitch the “wrist” closed, securing the stuffing into the hand, the arm is not stuffed, cut yarn, weave in ends.

Round 29

ch 1, sc into same st, sc into next 17 sts, cut yarn leaving a 25 cm tail to stitch to body.

Helpful hint: slip stitch the arm opening (after you have stuffed and stitched the hand), again I do this as it looks neater when we attach the arms to the body later, make sure that your join is on the side of the arm, that way you won’t really see it.

Helpful hint: we will slip stitch the arms to the top of the body in part 6.

HANDS – CHILLY

Make two – lightly stuffed and worked in the round.

Using colour (G) yarn make a mc.

Round 1

ch 1, sc 8 into mc, place st marker into 8th sc and continue to work in the round (8 sc).

Round 2

sc 2 into each st (16 sc).

Round 4

sc into next 24 sts (24 sc).

Round 5-8

repeat round 4 (24 sc).

Round 9

*inv sc2tog, sc into next 2 sts*, rep *.* 5 more times (18 sc).

Round 10

sc into next 18 sts (18 sc).

Round 11

*inv sc2tog, sc into next 4 sts*, rep *.* 2 more times (15 sc).

Round 12

sc into next 15 sts (15 sc).

Round 13

*inv sc2tog, sc into next 3 sts*, rep *.* 2 more times (12 sc).

Round 14

sc into next 18 sts (18 sc).

Helpful hint: at the end of round 14, ss into next st, cut yarn, leaving 20cm tail (to stitch stuffing into hand) and leave the tail on the outside of the hand (this makes stitching the stuffing into the hand easier).  We are going to do this after a few rounds of the arm section.

ARMS – CHILLY

Not stuffed – make 2.

Using colour (G), join yarn in the last single crochet from round 14.

Round 15

ch 1 and hdc into same st, hdc into the next 11 sts, ss into 1st hdc (12 hdc).

Helpful hint: the chain 1 stitch does not count as a stitch BUT it is used, and the reason for this is so that we get a nice straight join – have no idea how, but it works LOL.

Round 16

ch 1, hdc into same st, hdc into next 11 sts, ss into 1st hdc (12 hdc).

Helpful hint: lightly stuff the hands, think squishy, then using the long tail left from the “hand” section stitch the “wrist” closed, securing the stuffing into the hand, the arm is not stuffed, cut yarn, weave in ends.

Round 17-24

repeat round 16.

Round 25

ch 1, sc into same st, sc into next 11 sts, cut yarn leaving a 25 cm tail to stitch to body.

SNOWFLAKE MOTIF – DAD

Make 2 (or as many as you feel like making) – using colour (F) make a mc

I really struggled with this design, so if you have a prettier snowflake motif feel to use it.

Round 1

Ch 1 (does not count as a st), make a *2 dc cluster, ch 4*, rep *.* 5 more times (6 x 2 dc cl, 6 x ch 4 sps), st into top of 1st cl st.

Round 2

*[Sc, hdc, dc, ch 3, ss into 1st ch (3 ch picot st), hdc, sc] into ch 4 sp, ch 1*, rep *.* 5 more times, ss into 1st sc (2 sc, 2 hdc, dc, picot per “petal” of snowflake).

Helpful hint: we will slip stitch the snowflakes to the body in part 6.
