A photo tutorial of how to join two strands of yarn using a technique called a magic knot, which I have used for years, and as long as you make the knots tight and gently tug on the two ends afterwards, to check they are holding firm, will never come loose.

I just love it! So I thought I would make one to share with you.

To make this tutorial easier, I am using strands of different colours. Place your two strands next to each other with the ends on opposite sides.

Tie a knot using one strand AROUND the other strand.
Tie a know with the other strand AROUND the first strand. Pull each knot nice and tight.

Holding onto each piece of yarn pull very firmly until both knots are lying against each other.

When you have pulled a few times, and be FIRM, you can cut the ends off as close to the knots as you can get, that way your knot will be barely visible.

Saves me loads of extra weaving in, and I do not waste precious yarn, because I am not worrying about joining balls in the middle of a row.
